Splendidly illustrated by Sweden’s Linnea Sterte (using a Mont Blanc pen as her only artistic tool), this seminal work is told through the lens of frogs, toads, and other animals who are finding their way through the different seasons of life, and learning important lessons along the way. There is a quiet humor here, and I love that none of the elements are overly precious.

A colorful sleeve wraps around the entire book, so sliding it out becomes like unboxing a present every time you read it. The format is a bit unusual; utilizing a long landscape orientation but it somehow adds to the experience of dimensional storytelling.

This is an all-ages book, and makes an enduring gift especially for that someone who appears to ‘have everything’. In a glib world, we always have books reminding us of possibilities, and A Frog in the Fall does it with understated wit and heart.
