High Country Motor Lodge

Nice pool, excellent cocktails, in house pizza, and a game room...the upgrades to this old motor lodge are just right. They have a sauna hot/cold experience that you can add on, but we didn't try it. Beds are comfy, linens are soft, the layout remains classic motor lodge. My one beef: Whoever painted the bathrooms and vanity area didn't prime the walls, so despite the contemporary color, the thick scratched and peeling paint looks like the landlord special. It's common mistake to skip primer and then glob the paint on in hopes of coverage, but it's really sad to see in a motel that made such nice upgrades everywhere else. If you don't do stairs request the ground floor because there is no elevator!

It's updated but vintage, with super comfy rooms. There's a nice courtyard that has food trucks and music, locals hang out here too. There's a bar as well, so you can order drinks and decompress outside. Extra bonus: they have robes!

The perfect stop between Los Angeles and Marfa, TX. It has updates, but still has the vintage vibe. We started staying in motor lodges like this during covid, outside entrance, no hallways! This place has become a little art hub in Tucson. They have local wares, and a truly fantastic oatmeal bar in the mornings, as well as a bar that has local beer. Many nice chilling areas for road trippers, as well as a nice pool.

Truly vintage, super nice people. They have a firepit in the front that they light each morning and evening, it's nice to sit around and meet people. The pool is great, and in the morning they have good coffee and homemade cinnamon rolls.
