If I can be cringe and pretentious for a second, It has to be Medjool. And it has to be Middle Eastern in source, not from Israel (which a lot in western supermarkets are) To save yourself the accidental trouble of getting Israeli dates get your dates from a Middle Eastern food market, they always come in gigantic boxes.
