Beautiful, mysterious, never crowded. Cecil DeMille famously filmed the Ten Commandments here and then buried the massive set pieces under the sand. This was equally cool as a kid and as an adult.

This is everything you think a northern-ish CA hike is going to be. Gorgeous, turquoise water, lush green trees and rocky paths. We saw baby seals coming out of the water here in April one year and it was heartbreakingly amazing.

Covell's Clydesdales (Cambria, CA)

I went here to humor a family member who wanted to go, and I left completely Clydesdale-pilled. Go meet and even feed a couple carrots to the humongous, mythical, stunning Clydesdale horses that this family raises on a beautiful farm on the central coast. Super nice people, ethical practices, etc. And epic horses

On the central coast and possibly one of my favorite places off Highway 1. Quiet, misty, near other nice spots like San Luis Obispo and Paso Robles, with its own nice set of quaint restaurants and the beautiful Moonstone Beach. ~4 hours from LA.
