TAIX
•••
Impossible to confine the history and je ne sais quoi of Los Angeles' most ensouled restaurant into a RL post so I won't even try. With that said, I recently learned that my grandparents first visited Taix in 1974 when their friend Nicky threw a party for himself there. He had just been drafted for Vietnam and wanted what he thought would be his last meaningful meal on home soil to be their Steak Frites. Thankfully the war ended before he could be sent over, leading to another bountiful (and for obvious reasons poignant) meal in 2026!

Dal Rae Restaurant
•••
We lovingly call Dal Rae "The Musso & Frank's of East LA". My grandparents celebrate their anniversary here every year and if I'm lucky, sometimes my birthday! Go to's on the menu are the Spaghetti with Giant Meatball, Relish Tray, Double Cut Lamb Chop and (of course) a Manhattan served up.

Connie & Ted's
•••
Took my grandma here for some Fish & Chips and Oysters, obviously she loved. Definitely don't miss out on dessert–– pastry chef Daphane has almost brought me to tears on multiple occasions with her Whoopie Pies and Sorbets. The streets are saying C&T may be closing down soon, but the restaurant has yet to confirm. More will be revealed...

Hermon's
•••
My grandparents have lived in El Sereno for over fifty years, so when this chic new spot opened up just on the other side of the infamous Monterey Road hill I was so excited to bring them by. We ordered the Shrimp Cocktail, Citrus Salad, Ragu Bolognese and my grandpa ordered the happy hour Cheeseburger special. Absolutely divine!
