Informing people in person that it’s your birthday

Casually mentioning that “it’s actually my birthday today” to people I come across in person on the Big Day (other moms at preschool pickup, neighbors, grocery cashiers, baristas etc) is the best. I firmly believe people want to celebrate one another, and I get a rush watching other people’s face light up due to having someone to whom they can heartily proclaim the ol’ HBD. (It also feels way better than sheepishly hiding the fact and thus being all sadgirl about people not knowing). It makes me feel confident, connected to humanity, and grateful to be alive. (And to everyone out there, I always want to know if it’s your birthday)
