The Furniture Society
•••
If you're interested in the stories behind furniture and making, The Furniture Society is worth exploring. It brings together independent makers, curators, educators, collectors, and craft enthusiasts through exceptional online and in-person programs, a searchable Maker Directory, and meaningful scholarship and grant opportunities. Right now, I'm especially excited about our three-part online series on furniture preservation and conservation, which shares knowledge from historic sites, museum collections, and makers' legacies with a national audience. The next conversation, Wood and Water: Furniture on Long Island (August 12), uncovers the stories of Quaker joiners, Black makers, women upholsterers, Dutch turners, and Indigenous weavers, revealing how furniture shaped—and reflected—the region's diverse communities.
