Kirstie Kimball is a FANTASTIC food critic who covers all of MN, but lives in Minneapolis. Her writing is voicey and great, and she has tons of hyper-specific recs for foodies (where to get the best peaches! 6 best fries in Minnesota! Go-to orders! Best scoops in an ice cream flight!)

Sauna and cold plunging

I don’t cold plunge but friends swear by it. Sauna culture here is pretty rad.

Go and get lost. I’ve been visiting since childhood and still leave inspired every time. Visit any time but also for Art in Bloom in the spring when local florists create designs inspired by a chosen work of art and the museum is just covered in flowers. The store there is great too. General museum admission is always free; you can purchase tickets to see special exhibits or ticketed events.

The Lakes

Walking around Lake Harriet, Bde Maka Ska or Lake of the Isles (ideally with a coffee) is a classic Minneapolis pastime, and one of my favorite ways to spend a morning. Great for people watching and scoping out all of the fancy houses :)

There’s this delightful independent children’s bookstore in MN! There’s a small purple door and… cats. And dogs. And chickens, chinchilla, excellent staff picks and great vibes.

So many fun, free events!!
•••
There are so many amazing free, community based events in Minneapolis. My favorites are in the winter, which can make the season a lot less brutal: The Kite Festival on Lake Harriet + Art Shanties, The Luminary Loppet (not technically free, but you can enjoy without paying for the event), and list attached will give you many more ideas! Welcome to MPLS!

Guthrie Theater

World class theater in an incredibly lovely and accessible package. You can get a season package (7 shows) for less than $25 per ticket ($175 total) — wild deal, beautiful place. And now, Owamni just opened its new restaurant, Indigena, there as well. A dream!✨❤️

nancy silverton created a butterscotch budino at osteria mozza that is lovely BUT 112 eatery in minneapolis perfected it and it is transcendent. every time i visit home this is a non-negotiable stop (everything else they serve is amazing but we often go just for dessert because we’re so obsessed)
