I have found that I can do things if I schedule the time for them… so I do. It maybe sounds dumb, but it was a hard learned lesson for me. If I don’t see how and where something fits into my day, I will forget to make the time for it, even if it’s important (lol taxes?).
If I keep missing something and really need to do it—it goes on the calendar. Even if it’s “routine.”
Before I go to sleep I check the calendar to see what the next day holds, and remind myself in the morning, too. Every few days I’ll look at a week or two in advance for birthdays, fun events or friend hangs, and see what evenings are empty to accomplish boring, necessary life tasks… or fill with more life-giving activities to look forward to.
That includes hanging out with friends, solo runs, birthdays, classes, cancelling subscriptions, trash day reminders. It also took me years to realize that if I don’t buy the tickets for events right when they come out, I’ll miss the moment and the event will sell out, or I’ll forget about it until after the event happens. So now I put an event into my calendar to buy the tickets. And as soon as I buy the tickets, I immediately put the event on the calendar.
Also if this is dumbest thing you’ve ever heard, plz ignore me. But I wish someone told me sooner! It unlocked so much of my life for me, and now I do so much more in a week than I used to do in a month—and in a nice way! My life is more full of friends and things that interest me and bring me joy now that I know how to make time for more.
🧈 And I always buy more butter than I need and just put the extra in the freezer. It always gets used and very rarely do we truly run out.
🦷 Always schedule the next dental appointment before you leave the current one. If you have to cancel, reschedule in the same call. But only cancel if you really truly cannot make it.
