We’re incredibly lucky in the SF Bay Area for a myriad reasons, and one of them, which almost always works, is that you can go to the weather you want.
The microclimates in the area allow for overcast/foggy, windy, sunny and cool, or sunny and warm—all within an hour’s drive (add a little lagniappe for public transit) if you know where to go.
😶🌫️ Fog got you in a frump? Head East: Embarcadero, the Mission. East Bay if you want more warmth. Another option, if the eastern parts of SF are also foggy: Sausalito will have sun.
☀️ Sunshine cramping your cozy vibes? The Haight and the Sunset can likely give you cover.
Eventually, you’ll pick up the weather patterns and know what time the sun comes out in the neighborhoods you love. And what a joy it is to know a place in your bones!
A few noteworthy views worth enjoying:
Sometimes, you can see how the Bay sucks the marine layer into fog and cools/covers the area from the top of Mt Tam. It’s beautiful.
On a clear day, the view from the top of the De Young is fun, because you can walk around to see in all directions. That’s especially fun with visitors, because the wall-sized map helps orient them! Those clear days are also wonderful times to catch the ferry to Alcatraz or Angel Island.

+1 Being atop Mt Tam watching the fog rolling through the Bay is one of the most incredible things.
