Carrying disposable chopsticks for germ-free snacking
•••
How I’ve reconciled my deep love of chips (the perfect travel snack) with my deeper phobia of plane/train/automobile/gas station (general transit) germs. Shout out chopsticks when vigorous hand washing simply isn’t available/enough.

Airplane Footrest with Premium Memory Foam
•••
If you’re an economist (my preferred, not accurate, term for an economy flyer) of shorter stature, like myself, then this is for you. The sweet relief and added comfort of having a foot rest knows no limits. Truly has become a non-negotiable life saver on long hauls.

somebody feed phil
•••
I have the softest, squishiest spot in my heart for this travel show. The host, Phil Rosenthal (creator of Everybody Loves Raymond), is so sweet, silly, optimistic, fun, and funny. The show is cozy and features the best of humanity in the best of places. Very good inspo for places to hit if you’re ever traveling to one of the show’s destinations!

mcmenamin’s old st. francis soaking pool (bend, Oregon)
•••
A very special soaking experience in this 1936 catholic school - turned- hotel. It’s an open air, warm, saltwater pool where ambience abounds: stained glass windows, mosaic tile art, romantic tiered fountains, and dramatic lion’s head spouts to boot. Bonus points for going when it’s raining or snowing.

After visiting a national park, I always bookmark their webcam page for subsequent remote visits. Good for vacation withdrawals and desktop dissociations from work!

Salt & Sill Floating Hotel- Tjörn, Sweden
•••
Most charming, coziest floating hotel on an island off the West Coast of Sweden. Stunning scenery, incredible fresh seafood, iconic outdoor hot tub + sauna + North Sea cold plunge setup, hiking/kayaking/biking in nature, and lovely staff. I never wanted to leave and immediately wanted to return. You’ll feel a million miles away from everything in the best way.

round tower
•••
On all of the lists for a reason - the climb is a legitimately hypnotizing extremely picturesque ascent, and then the 360 views from the observation deck are also super worth it

•••
Gorgeous, central green space with beautiful flowers, trees, trellises, benches, and stretches of lawn perfect for picnics, reading, and generally hanging out. Around the corner from round tower and DØP (organic hotdogs that hittt)- so, actually, bring a hotdog and enjoy.

Hugbageri - H.U.G. Gluten-Free Bakery
•••
Totally gluten-free, and allergen-conscious bakery that is..So.Damn.Good. I’ve had many a bad GF baked goods in my day, and these are NOT that. My mouth waters on demand when I think of their peanut butter shortbread bar. Cardamom buns for days. I only wish I had gone more. What’s that saying? “you’ll always regret the buns you didn’t eat” (-me)

hirschsprung collection
•••
Kind of under the radar (per “the lists”) museum filled with stunning Danish art. It’s centrally located, expertly curated, and was such a calm/peaceful/quiet environment. A petite, perfect Impressionist - filled hit of art without the crowds. It also has a very charming courtyard where you can hang out and fantasize about moving to Copenhagen.

Bassett’s cherry drops
•••
Excuse me sir, do you have a moment to talk about the ultimate hard candy sweet treat experience, Cherry Drops? If you’re in the UK…do yourself a favor: stockpile these, keep them in your purse/car, and Pavlovian-dog-train yourself to expect this delicious juicy flavor bomb all the time. Truly great sensory lift for waiting in line, sitting in traffic, finishing a meal, experiencing any minor inconvenience, etc.

“voice map” app for self-guided audio tours
•••
Great way to orient yourself to, and learn about, a new city you’re visiting on your schedule without having to commit to a live guided tour. It’s a nice alternative to the free walking tours where you’re restricted to certain start times, groups can be big/annoying, and guides can be hard to hear. Sorry to big tour guide - the future is truly *here*. The Stockholm Old Town tour I did was inexpensive, informative without being overkill, and I liked how it synced with GPS to keep me on track. If you’re with a travel buddy, share an ear bud and let the app lead the way!

meatballs for the people (and other Stockholm things)
•••
Tried because it’s true! I’m sorry to report these meatballs are actually very delicious and you really should go :) Others: Freya + soder restaurant: good food and great views Sitting/eating/drinking outside in sodermalm: in SoFo on skanegatan (bar agrikultur), or near Slussen station which has great views of the city Skansen Museum: Nordic history, beautiful views, Sweden of yesteryear Eating choklabollar: these no-bake chocolate ball snacks (oats, butter, sugar, coconut, coffee) were a revelation. They are simple, but I still dream of them. Archipelago trip: 10000% recommend getting out of the city, staying on an island, and enjoying their vast ferry network (and the stunning scenery that accompanies it) Ferries: speaking of ferries…taking the ferries, whenever possible, in Stockholm. Very scenic, and often most convenient way, to move between certain points of interest. E.g. Djurgarden to sodermalm Fika: embrace fika while you’re there, eat all the buns, carry the spirit of fika home with you after
