must watch!!! okay, i feel like i can’t fully rate it yet since not all the episodes are out… but jesus christ, this show has genuinely brought me out of my kdrama slump. i’m laughing. i’m crying. i’m obsessed. and i’m actively hating a certain character every single episode. it’s SO good. and it’s on netflix. without spoiling too much — the story follows a notorious villainess from the joseon era who dies by poisoning… only to suddenly wake up in present-day seoul inside the body of a struggling actress. pls watch.

genre : romance score : 8/10 tropes : “move to a small town and start over” healing arc, hidden trauma, slow-burn, healing romance a healing drama about a woman completely burnt out by life. so she quits her job, leaves seoul, and moves to a quiet seaside village to basically do nothing. there she meets a shy little librarian who mostly keeps to himself. very awkward. very quiet. very “speaks softly but feels everything deeply.” they slowly become part of each other’s lives. helping each other heal without even really meaning to. just two lonely people finding comfort together. and yes… the yearning in this show is INSANE. they look at each other like they invented tenderness. i know there’s barely a kiss. i KNOW. but somehow it doesn’t even matter because they’re just so soft and perfect together. very calm. very sweet. very “maybe life can still be gentle.”

genre : romance score : 10/10 tropes : fan × idol romance, time travel, (again...) age gap, but like by the mind?, doomed timeline, parallel timelines, sacrificial devotion, “you were always meant to know each other” fate a time-travel romance about a devoted fan who loses her favorite idol far too soon. so she goes back 15 years into the past to try and save him. in the present, she’s living with paralysis. but when she goes back in time, that part of her life hasn’t happened yet. so she gets a second chance at everything. they actually knew each other growing up… kind of. but they don’t really “meet” properly until she time travels. and suddenly their lives start overlapping in ways they never realized before. she keeps trying to change his fate. keeps chasing different timelines just to keep him alive. but the more she tries, the more they fall into each other. he falls first. then harder. then even harder. and underneath all of it… there’s also a serial killer storyline quietly tightening the tension the whole time. so it’s not just romance. it’s romance + stress + emotional damage.

genre : romance score : 100/10 tropes : human × immortal romance, life-or-death romance contract, magical object, destined soulmate, age gap?, sacrifice ending a fantasy romance about an immortal goblin cursed to live forever. a 939-year-old guardian of souls just stuck existing while everyone else moves on. which honestly sounds exhausting. imagine never being able to rest. his only way out is finding his destined human bride. the one person who can pull the invisible sword from his chest and finally end his life. no pressure at all. then he meets her. a girl who is somehow tied to his fate without even knowing it. and suddenly forever doesn’t feel so lonely anymore. they slowly get pulled into each other’s worlds. past lives start catching up. and the line between love and destiny gets really blurry. it’s soft. it’s tragic. it’s beautiful in that “this is going to hurt later” way.

genre : mystery / romance score : 8/10 tropes : trauma bounding, misunderstood male lead, supernatural, hidden identity a romance-mystery about a woman who can literally hear when people are lying. which honestly sounds terrible. imagine never knowing peace. then she meets a music producer hiding from the world because he’s connected to a murder case. everyone thinks he did it. she’s one of the only people who believes him. they start unraveling the truth together while also helping each other heal. very soft. very comforting. and the romance is actually so cute.

genre : romance score : 6/10 tropes : timeline switching, time travel, dead lover lookalike, grief-driven romance, memory + recognition delay a time-travel romance about a woman grieving her dead boyfriend. then one day, a mysterious cassette tape sends her back to 1998 into another girl’s body. and she meets a boy who looks exactly like him. this show is SO confusing sometimes. so much jumping back and forth through timelines. i genuinely think i need to rewatch it to fully understand everything. 😭 and you feel so bad for the original girl too. imagine waking up and your whole life is basically getting hijacked. but it’s also just really sad because the main girl misses her boyfriend so badly. and this boy isn’t really him… but also somehow is.

genre : soul crushing (romance) score : 10/10 tropes : first love, “friend helps friend find love” setup, mistaken focus leads to own romance, memory/nostalgia-driven storytelling movie set in 1999, this is a coming-of-age romance about first love, friendship, and growing up. a girl starts spying on her best friend’s crush to help her out… and accidentally falls for the boy’s best friend instead. sounds cute right? wrong. if you want to cry your actual eyes out, watch this movie. like devastating. soul crushing. i finished it and just stared at the wall for a while

genre : romance score : 1000000/10 tropes : forbidden love, bodyguard, enemies-to-lovers, found family, “we should not work… but we do” fate, separation + long-distance yearning arc i’ll set the scene. a rich girl goes paragliding. gets caught in a random tornado. everyone thinks she died. nope. she literally crash lands into north korea. there she meets a north korean military captain who hides and protects her while trying to get her back home. and obviously… they fall in love. but honestly the side characters are EVERYTHING. such a good found family trope. the soldiers, the village ladies… i love them all so bad. the whole time you’re stressed because how could this possibly end happily??? and somehow they find a way. also this wouldn’t be a kdrama if they didn’t meet before. there’s always that one scene where their like, oh my god. i know them! it’s meant to be. like duhh please watch this show. genuinely my favorite kdrama of all time. on netflix.

(korea vs corea) magic flute. parallel worlds. doppelgängers. timeline mess. and one evil uncle causing problems across dimensions. honestly half the time you’re just trying to keep up. but the visuals? insane. the romance? dramatic in the best way. side note, i do think this is like banned in korea because they hint a war with china.
