Subaru EVs are good now

Do you consider yourself “Subaru-coded” but are also interested in an electric vehicle? If you don’t pay much attention to the car world you may not realize that Subaru makes EVs, and as of 2026 they are actually pretty good (as opposed to the pre-2026 models which were mediocre). There are now 3 models: the Crosstrek-sized Uncharted, the sort-of Forester-adjacent Solterra, and the extremely Outback-like Trailseeker. We replaced our aging Outback with a Trailseeker and have really enjoyed how it’s the same rugged wagon we like, but just happens to be an EV. It even has normal door handles that always work like they should! Prices are not far off the cost of a new gas-powered equivalent. They are co-manufactured with Toyota so you can also get nearly-identical Toyota-badged equivalents of these cars. One brand may be cheaper than the other depending on model and trim.

Tint your car windows

Tinted windows are not just for dirtbags! They’re actually a fantastic way to vastly improve the comfort of your car. A quality ceramic tint blocks UV rays, protects your skin and keeps your car cooler so your AC doesn’t have to work so hard. Especially important in EVs where AC use affects range. Most of all, it makes every drive more pleasant on an almost subconscious level. Without tint, the sun on your skin and in your eyes is more fatiguing than you realize. If you drive a lot in sunny climes, tint will change your life. If laws barring front window tint are an issue for you, a lightly-tinted or non-tinted UV-blocking film will still make a difference.
