I Hope We Can Still Be Friends (Dean Johnson)
•••
Re-rec +++. Dean’s a local who was a beloved bartender at a dive, and then released his first album in his 50s. Saw him at Easy Street and then at the Showbox, where Dave Matthews stood behind us taking it all in. Spread the word about this gem. He’s on tour this fall/winter.

No shade to Lao gan ma - it inspired this seattle-made chili crisp. Now our go-to, it’s the fried garlic slivers that put it over the top.

Taco Time crispy bean tacos
•••
It’s a truth universally acknowledged that folks who grew up in the northwest love taco time and everyone else is a hater. But here we are: a crispy bean taco with a shell that stays crisp. Fresh iceberg lettuce, one half tomato slice. Uniformly shredded cheese. Is it superior to my local taco truck taco or any taco east of the Cascades and south of the Columbia river: No. Is it a category unto itself: enthusiastic yes.

peleton cafe bike shop
•••
Back in the day peleton was a tiny bike shop w weekly taco nights. It expanded into the former chicken and waffles shop next door and now serves bangin food all day. Can I rec the bike shop - no as I don’t have a bike (Seattle’s cycling infrastructure situ is a whole convo for a diff day. and: hills). But do I deeply love a place where I can add a hashbrown patty to anything - yes. Vegan menu, gf abundance, always busy but no wait. Kind folks work here.
