my boyfriend and I are going to NYC in early November! What should we do? (I've been multiple times and done the big tourist things. We're both giant art, theater, and design fans, enjoy nature, and love to eat)

Janet Cardiff's "Her Long Black Hair"
•••
is one of my favorite works of art in New York City. Start at Central Park South and let Janet's voice guide you through the park with audio and photos. It's best in late spring into summer and takes about 40 minutes. Commissioned in 2004 by Public Art Fund, "the experience of the walk uses photographs to reflect upon the relationship between images and notions of possession, loss, history, and beauty."

The Jim Henson exhibit alone is worth the quick trip over to Queens for this movie museum, then you can enjoy the great food in Astoria.

Okay it might be a little cold for this, but it is so fun. This is what my sister and I are doing on Sunday this weekend!

New York City Marble Cemetery
•••
This is a weird one, fair warning, because I’ve actually never once been inside (though I’ve wanted to - it’s just only open to the public like once a month): the Marble Cemetery on E 2nd is so charming and peaceful. It’s sort of my dream one day to live in one of the apartments that borders it. Just walking past is beautiful. One of my very favorite places in Manhattan, tbh.

L’Industrie in the West Village

I used to live in Manhattan and my sister did after me; when she introduced me to this it instantly jumped to the top of my NYC slice list. Extremely good pizza and also maritozzi!

Té Company in the West Village

This is my favorite tearoom in the city. Simply delicious Taiwanese teas, superb pastries, the kindest staff, and incredible environs to spend an hour or so solo or with a friend. I’ve only been to the original West Village location, but can’t recommend it enough. Always top of my to-do list when I’m back in NYC. Three Lives across the street is an awesome place to check out, while you’re at it.

The Pickle Guys
•••
I've never been in person but the pickles are so good my dad has flown them back to Canada. I dream of the pickled mango and the half sours, also the pineapple! I believe they let you taste things. They will also wrap things in all the saran wrap for checked baggage. All my other NYC faves are just basking in the joy of crowds and concrete, taking the subway, and wandering central park with a coffee.
