vibrant, pigmented perfumes
•••
they just look cooler! Natural essences are heavily pigmented and more concentrated than synthetic perfumes, so you see the vibrant yellow-orange of saffron or the deep green of pine. And because you dab them on (vs enveloping yourself in a cloud, as with synthetic perfumes), you don't have to worry about staining your clothes, if you're concerned about that. my friend Carmen is an olfactory artist and founder of Eulogy perfumes and she created a line of highly pigmented, gorgeous perfumes inspired by synesthesia. Telos (green) has notes of honeysuckle, shiso, pine, green oakmoss, ginger and bergamot.

There's a great history of incense as a time marker — incense clocks were used across East Asia to measure time as far back as the sixth century. They were present in not only temples, but palaces, agricultural regions and even government offices. People even tried to make incense-based alarm clocks, and in some spaces, the scent of the incense would change every hour.
