A bit too much for acute grief or if the loss is too fresh and you’re deep in it. But once you’re ready to peak out, this book has a lot in it. When I got my first copy someone gave it to me and said “don’t lend this out, if you want to recommend it to someone get them their own copy” and I bought as many used as I could find on eBay and gave them to anyone who was receptive”

I was moved by how Brooks approached this book as a former journalist. The details, the sources, the facts. For readers reeling in their own grief, her account of her husband’s death and her shifting grief felt so clearheaded and sure that it provides momentary relief from your own fog.

Check “Keep Messages” Setting on iPhone

You know what’s shitty on the anniversary of your loved one’s death? Waking up to your text thread with them being completely gone because your Messages app was set to delete old texts after 1 year. Speaking from experience, I recommend checking your settings now to avoid this loss upon loss. Go to the Settings app on your iPhone. Tap Apps, then tap Messages. Scroll down, tap Keep Messages (below Message History), then choose an option.
