The Japanese garden in Portland, Oregon: A Japanese ambassador to the U.S. once called this “the most beautiful and authentic Japanese garden in the world outside of Japan.” High praise, but once you go you can absolutely see why. Flawlessly blends the serenity and beauty of traditional Japanese gardening with the naturally verdant lushness of the Pacific Northwest. Also, their tearoom and gift shop are both excellent.

Hat Yai in Portland, OR: This place is so good, even my vegan friend loved it ... and it’s a fried chicken joint. I recommend the Alberta Park location - then chill in the park afterwards!

Enchanted Forest 🏰: Oregon’s best theme park, just outside of Salem. Visited nearly every summer growing up. Hand-built into the woods, and family owned, featuring fairy tale and fantasy themes, western town, haunted house, log ride, ice mountain bobsled roller coaster, etc.

Jettery Fishery: crab off the docks! or rent a boat! the seafood is amazing, of course. family friendly!! i think the happiest afternoon of my trip was during the crab derby at this lovely spot (june 6 this year) i hope you get to toss some buoys and catch some crabs!

WolfMoon Bakery: i happened to stumble into this bakery on its opening day and had the best sourdough chocolate croissant of my life. and met the loveliest owners!

Gabriel park and multnomah village: fun! if you only have a weekend go to Gabriel park for the playground followed by the nature walk then eat and shop in Multnomah Village. Annie Blooms books and tastebuds restaurant are keepers plus there are other food and shopping option if you’d like. you could go see ole bole troll at the Nordic center! or you can do the international rose test garden and picnic there in the sun. there’s really so much!
