What are some good 30-minute tv shows I can find on streaming? I need a short enjoyable something that doesn’t conflict with bedtime.

The Good Place (2016–2020)
•••
A woman wakes up in the afterlife and finds herself in The Good Place, but soon realizes that she was sent there by mistake. It's a wonderfully absurd comedy but is underpinned by explorations of deep philosophical concepts related to ethics and morality. Currently available on Amazon Prime, Disney/Hulu, and Peacock.

An upbeat delight and thoroughly rewatchable. Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman are an all-time great sitcom duo, and the cast is stacked (Aubrey Plaza, Chris Pratt, Rob Lowe, Adam Scott, Rashida Jones, Aziz Ansari, I could go on).

It’s an NBC comedy so the jokes vacillate between extremely broad and extremely specific at a rapid pace. What made this one a winner for me is the absolutely charming cast. I can’t wait for the next season… It is a very smooth and frictionless watch.

I don’t know anyone that has seen this show, so if you have that’s awesome. Each episode is a vignette of a different relationship, it can be a little depressing but the writing is really good imo, also the cast is amazing. Only 3 seasons, I wish there were more.

The most criminally underwatched animated show of all time. Wonderful world-building, plot/character/relationship arcs, representation, found family dynamic, soundtrack, satisfying final season and conclusion. Kindness as a pervading theme but real re its limitations. Neck-and-neck with AtLA for all-time fav.

Finds its legs immediately, very funny right from the first ep (imo), no on-ramp, so only 30 minutes to decide if it’s for you or not.

A decade since it first aired, I'm halfway through rewatching this HBO comedy-drama series from creator, writer & star, Issa Rae (a literal genius imho). It's still such a painfully raw, thought-provoking and hysterically unhinged reflection on life as a 20-something black woman in LA. Honest & hilarious.

Better Things (2016)
•••
Stumbled upon this hilariously endearing series after watching Anora (despite not liking it) & becoming struck by the talent that is Mikey Madison. Pamela Adlon is brilliant in her role as Sam Fox, an actor & single mum juggling her career, three teenagers, her eccentric mother who lives next door, amid a mix of relatable moments & mishaps.
