I just finished this and can't really articulate why I loved this book so much but I was deeply invested in the outcome from the get. It feels pretentious to say that it is the human experience in a book, but hey. The character development is so intentional. The prose is just flowery enough. The language can be problematic at time (not a reason I liked it, just a note). Dragged my feet getting to this one because I had assumptions and you know what they say.

Oh, brother, the ways this book fucked me up, but in such a visceral and memorable way. It is filled with grief and trauma but also unconditional love and relationship that had me sobbing in traffic the way a really good story should.

When, unfortunately, I come across the phrase 'dark academia' I am fortunately reminded of this book. It has it all - mystery, romance, violence, messy relationship dynamics, divisive characters, new england landscape, melodrama!

Sloane Crosley is up there with Nora Ephron in my book. I love how crotchety she is. I love that she was in one random episode of Gossip Girl. She is a national treasure.
