Merci Milo for all your kid gifting
•••
I often find myself looking for stores that have nostalgic, no noise, no lights, toys. Sometimes it’s Japanese stationary, sometimes a yoto, a doll or a toy car. Or maybe a funky thing I’ve never heard of. For all of these occasions I turn to Merci Milo, a cool little shop in the PNW. Keep this in your back pocket for holidays and birthdays.

Gardening with kids
•••
I just got into gardening since we are new to having a yard, but spending time outside, doing slow, quiet, low pressure work has been a lovely way to spend time with my kids. At 3 and 6 they can both find things that interest them, and there is lots of mud and water to play with when they need a break from digging and planting. Bonus if you have popsicles in your freezer which are a crucial for cooling down!

The ocean is a bit big for the littlest family members but that doesn’t mean you can’t bring the ocean to them! You have the option of a cover (useful when they are pre-sunscreen age) or not.

PODCAST for littles: Sparkle Stories
•••
There are a lot of kids podcasts out there but imho, if you have a child who’s under the age of 10, the Sparkle Stories universe is everything you want it to be and more. categorized by age-appropriate there are a number of different series some of which are available for free through the Yoto players podcast streams, Spotify or Apple podcasts or wherever else you get your podcasts. Alternatively, they also have their own app which you can subscribe to to get Full access to their library of stories. The stories are gentle, quiet, and teach lessons that even as an adult I find helpful to listen to. The messages are subtle, they are children’s stories at their core, but in a world that can feel dismal at times, these bring back the good First day of school jitters? Sparkle Stories has something for that. Looking for ways to inspire your children to come up with things to do on their own? Turn on an episode And inspiration is likely to strike. Navigating sibling struggles? Sparkle Stories will have a Sparkle Stories can help.

I would describe myself as “color sensitive.” There’s an element of synesthesia mixed in, but really I just mean that I can’t tolerate certain color combinations. Does this make clothing and accessorizing young children a challenge? Sometimes yes, but with enough searching it’s possible. These stickers are simultaneous a good font, stellar colors and really sticky. We put our water bottles in the dishwasher (it is what it is) and they have held on.
