Sleeping like ancient humans did

Learning this—about how ancient humans naturally slept in two 4 hour shifts, with a waking period around 3am was kinda life changing for me. Now when I wake up in the middle of the night and can’t fall back to sleep right away, I don’t sweat it. I am comforted by the fact that it’s completely natural, and I try to embrace it as my quiet reflection time. Ancient humans know best.

My friend did this a few years ago. Insanely fun to shop for old Abercrombie tanks. Juicy Couture jewelry. People brought their old flip phones. I wore my light blue iPod nano on my tank. Relics. Too much bronzer. Just so good.

I’ve lived in LA 7 years now—and this is my move 9 times out of 10. I’d rather take 32 minutes on surface streets to get somewhere instead of 20 minutes in traffic on these horrid freeways. You get to people watch, drive by new restaurants, keep the windows down, and generally have a better time. Not every drive needs to be a rush! :)

Being a regular at a thift store

I think of it like this: if your dog finds a sandwich one day under a bush on your regular route, your dog will demand that you give him a second to check under that bush on every walk for the rest of his life. Being a regular at a thrift store is the same. I religiously check the same sections where I’ve found gold on visits from long ago. And I’ve learned intimate rhythms of my store: what times they roll out new racks. Where the cool girls leave their reject piles. Lesser-known try-on mirrors. Life is good.
