Powell’s Books: I wandered around here browsing for almost two hours last time I was in Portland. They have so many interesting titles! Definitely check out their Rare Book room too.

The Japanese garden in Portland, Oregon: A Japanese ambassador to the U.S. once called this “the most beautiful and authentic Japanese garden in the world outside of Japan.” High praise, but once you go you can absolutely see why. Flawlessly blends the serenity and beauty of traditional Japanese gardening with the naturally verdant lushness of the Pacific Northwest. Also, their tearoom and gift shop are both excellent.
