The Summer Book

A sweet, small book. Writing was lovely and quiet, felt like a nice dream. I bet I’ll read this every August when the first whispers of autumn can be heard.

A gorgeous book with a plot twist that I still can’t get over. Reminded me of the Dutch House in that the main character is a place and not a person. The main human character was a grouch in the beginning but it all works out. I had a bit of a Hermione (or Her-me-own) moment with her name “Isa”. Is it Izza or Eye-sa? Probably would have devoured the book in 3 days but I kept tripping over her name and it took me 4. 5 ⭐️s!

A book about home and that no matter how hard you fight it, leave it, denounce it, it’s very much a part of who you are. Despite environmental issues and bleak family dynamics, this book really teaches you that small actions can absolutely have a big impact. An absolute must read. 5 ⭐️s

Maame by Jessica George
$19
•••
This story follows Maddie Wright, nicknamed Maame by her family, as she faces the freedom and anxiety of her mid-20s in London. You will quickly find yourself rooting for Maddie like she is your best friend. I listened to the audiobook and the narrator, Heather Agyepong, is amazing. Maddie (fictional), the author, and Heather are all of Ghanaian descent and wow, it’s a perfect pear-ing (readers will catch this play on words🍐). Enjoy!!!
