Rosas Danst Rosas: Iconic 1983 modern dance piece from Belgian choreographer Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker. Such simple movements that carry so much emotion. The breathing, the rhythm, the way the dancers synch and un-synch. Oof, I could watch this for hours!

And there’s some fun additional context: the music video for Beyoncé’s “Countdown” drew a little too heavily from this piece without giving proper credit, leading de Keersmaeker to invite anyone and everyone to make (or “remix”) their own versions in a project called Re:Rosas years before TikTok even existed. Thousands of people made videos (yours truly included!), and they revived the project again during the pandemic. You can watch some of those here and maybe even make your own!

An American in Paris - The Dream Ballet: Gene Kelly’s 18 minute masterpiece at the end of “An American in Paris” is a thrilling watch every time. Vincente Minnelli directed the sequence to perfection (the fountain scene? Oh my god!!), the costumes are breathtaking, and Leslie Caron, in her debut film, is a total revelation. While all of the numbers in this movie are perfect, this one takes the cake.
