Shin Kogei in Takayama: Absolutely gorgeous paper crafts. I’ve linked to the official shop, since it’s much harder to find, but I think the New and Old Arts Town Store is an official purveyor, too, and also excellent; they’re just a few blocks away.

Komeda’s Coffee, a delightful chain of diners throughout Japan: The food here is extremely solid (egg salad sandwiches, curry, etc.), as is the coffee. I stumbled upon one of their locations in a city once when I wanted someplace to relax for a little while — but now I will actively seek a Komeda out. Serious retro charm.
