Falafel Inc.: If you’re heading to the college town of Georgetown, check out Falafel Inc. It’s a shopping-heavy area, great for browsing between bites, but this place is worth carving out time for. I went in planning to order a sandwich, got talked into a bowl after watching someone else’s order go by, and don’t regret it one bit. Would go back without hesitation.

The Golden Plum Bakery: Not technically in DC, but if you’re in the area it’s worth the detour: The Golden Plum in Occoquan, about 30 minutes southwest of the city. It’s a genuinely charming little town, and the bakery has an incredible spread of pies. We stopped in back in 2023 and left with way more than we planned to buy.

The Lamb Pita at Yellow Cafe in DC: This is a perfect sandwich. The smokeyness of the lamb balances perfectly with the tang of the labneh and the brightness of the herbs. But don’t just take my word for it. Michelin Guide named this sandwich one of the 7 best in North America!
