A Tour Of A La Ronde
•••
If I was headed to the UK and could wander anywhere, I might just go to A La Ronde, a sixteen-sided cottage decorated by two sisters in the 1790s. The closets are shaped like wedges of pie and the rooms in between have some fantastic decorations, including friezes made from game bird feathers, landscapes made from lichen, and an upstairs gallery shellacked with shells. A great silvery gazing ball hangs in the central room, which is shaped like an octagon. Their will stipulated that the property could only be passed down to "unmarried kinswomen" but now it is managed by the National Trust.

Teenage Engineering Choir
•••
I have no rationale for collecting wooden robot dolls designed to sing to me; still, I long for them. You can listen to them sing here.

Alternative Processes workshops
•••
Would love to jet off to Tuscany and take one of Alternative Processes four-day sun-fueled image-making workshops so that I, too, could make my own cyanotype-printed chandelier prisms, a la Shelly Thomas.

From the British dealer Mike Kemp."

Paola Biancalana's ceramic whistles at The Noguchi Museum
•••
The next time I am in NYC, I am making a beeline to the Noguchi Museum to get one of Paola Biancalana's animal-shaped whistles (some are shaped like whales and make whale sounds). I love how the artist describes them: "Biancalana describes the objects as both comical and mysterious — breath blows them to life, evoking memories of the Myth of Creation. In moments of sadness, she says, their powerful hiss will ward off negative thoughts and bring upon good luck." Found via The Secret Strategist.
