“I wanted a solid starter machine that wasn't too complicated but that would also continue to meet my needs as my skills grew. I chose the Brother XR9550 for two main reasons:
It came with a LOT of accessories (including various extra sewing and quilting feet, a seam ripper, bobbins, etc.) so I didn't have to buy a bunch of extra stuff to get started.
It has SO many decorative stitches, which is cool, but it also has a variety of zig zag and overlocking stitches to help lock your raw edges so you won't need to buy a serger while you're getting started.
There are a few things I don't love, including the cover only fits on if the spool is off and the seam allowances are hard to see at first. However, I never travel with the machine so I don't care much about the cover and with practice, the seam allowances get easier!”
