Color Me Beautiful

“When I was a kid, my mom had the book, Color Me Beautiful, that walked you through how to analyze your skin, hair, and eye colors and found that people generally fit into 4 color categories. Each category has its own color palette of the colors that work best for each type. Thus, I learned my color season pretty early on in life (spring), but disregarded it in favor of wearing all-black, for years. During covid, I remembered that this book existed and bought myself a copy. I learned that people with my coloring don't generally do well wearing black! So I bought new items over time, phasing in more appropriate colors and phasing out black. Dressing in keeping with my color season has been one of the lynchpins of my personal style. I now have a cohesive wardrobe in which all the colors look good with each other -- and also on me! When I shifted from all black to colors that worked with my coloring, it was as if I had come alive. I looked better, I felt better, everything became more vibrant. One of the reasons that I gravitated towards wearing all-black was for the simplicity and not having to deal with decision-making first thing in the morning. But I have found that this palette approach works just as well, because I can mix-and-match and it all basically works together without having reinventing the wheel every time I get dressed. This has extended to my home decor and professional brand as well!”
