“When I was in high school, I came along with a friend to one of their friend’s apartments, and that friend was in the tender transition from high school to college and work. Written in expo marker on the mirror by the front door was the question, “Am I willing?” and while I have absolutely no idea what it meant for them, I took it to mean: if you’re willing to do it at all, be willing to give it your best. If you’re not willing to do it, say so, and give yourself the grace to excuse yourself from the situation. Maybe the reminder you need is different than this, but I love the mental check as you leave your new home and enter your new surroundings.”
