“in 2004 a software architect on whidbey island out-archived most institutions and extended the lifespan of work of weavers from 200 years ago. handweaving.net started with two hundred hand-entered drafts and now holds 76,000+, absorbing ralph griswold's own digitized collection of historic weaving, lace, and textile documents. it's a database built out from the persistence of someone who wanted to weave a pattern from 1821 on his own loom and opted to rebuild the entire archive underneath it. subscription-based features open up a world of possibilities, including the production of code-based patterns.”
