The Summer Book

“My favourite book of 25 years. On fears, courage and play.”

“I can’t believe it took me so long to find this delightful book, which like “A Year in Provence” provides pleasurable little slices one can dive into repeated summers and still savor.”

“This is my favorite book of all time. I try to read it every summer. Tove writes funny, sad, poignant, to-the-point stories of a granddaughter and grandmother spending their days together on a remote island in the Gulf of Finland.”

“This is the essence of long summer days with nothing to do. A woman and her young granddaughter pass a season at their summer house on a small Finnish island. They get up to some nonsense. They upset each other. They make up. They cook. The days go by. Yours will too, no matter what you do. I love it every time.”

“It’s like if a book was a hug.”

“A sweet, small book. Writing was lovely and quiet, felt like a nice dream. I bet I’ll read this every August when the first whispers of autumn can be heard.”

“Just a tad off geographically - in Finland - but still lovely and atmospheric for those Nordic summers.”

“Oh my: what a gift of a book. Each chapter stands alone, yet connects. A remote, northern island - intertwined lives - nothing, yet everything, happens. Life is about the small moments with the important people in your sphere. This novella captures this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Summer_Book”

“calm story about a girl and her granddaughter living in the elements on an island in the finnish archipelago. so sweet. tove jansson had such a good grasp of the playful human spirit”

“This is a little treasure that makes me want to be six years old again, spending the day with my grandma. In this case, they’re together on an island in Finland, not a little farm in rural MI. But I can relate so much”
