“Despite making up roughly a third of LA County, the Antelope Valley has relatively few vintage restaurants. Crazy Otto’s is more well-known, but on the way there, I passed this place and knew I had to stop. Maxdon's is sort of half dive bar, half steakhouse. The two barflies I met, Shannon and Lance, told me it had been open since 1972 and had the best steaks in town.
When I see a sign/parking lot situation like this I know I have to stop
From the salad bar to the clown paintings, it seemed like not much had changed in fifty years. Shannon told me that one thing had changed, though: you used to be able to just walk up to the grill in the back and cook your own steaks. Maxdon's reminded me of some of my other SoCal favorites, like The Venice Room and Long Beach's The Prospector.
If the AV is only going to be served by one dive bar steakhouse, they should consider themselves lucky that it's this one.”
