“Helen of Nowhere has just been longlisted for a Booker, which reminded me of the impeccable track record of its initial London publisher, Fitzceraldo Editions, which you’ll recognize from the simple blue covers with white serif type. Founded in London in 2014 by Jacques Testard, the press set out to publish books that larger commercial houses often considered too literary or difficult, with a focus on literary fiction, long-form essays, and a particular emphasis on translation. Svetlana Alexievich, Olga Tokarczuk, Annie Ernaux, and Jon Fosse won the Nobel Prize in Literature after joining the press. Helen is next on my bedside table.”
