Over the Garden Wall

“Oh, Potatoes and Molasses / If you want some, oh, just ask us / There're warm and soft like puppies and socks / Filled with cream and candy rocks Oh, Potatoes and Molasses / They're so much sweeter than algebra class / If your stomach is grumbling / And your mouth starts mumbling / There's only one thing to keep your brain from crumbling Oh, Potatoes and Molasses / If you can't see 'em put on your glasses / They're shiny and large like a fisherman's barge / You know you've had enough when you start seeing stars Oh, Potatoes and Molasses / It's the only thing left on your task list / They're short and stout they'll make everyone shout For Potatoes and Molasses! For Potatoes and...”

“It’s cozy. It’s fall vibes. It’s whimsical. Hilarious and deeply philosophical. 10-minute episodes. 10 total episodes. Set in an old wood forest, the story starts with two brothers (in strange outfits) and a frog, lost, looking to find their way home. Elijah Wood, Melanie Lynskey, and fuckin’ Doc from Back to the Future do voice acting! It’s an annual rewatch once October rolls around. Music is also great.”

“A PERFECT one season show. The most beautiful, vintage-style animation in the spirit of Disney’s Silly Symphonies, Studio Ghibli, with plenty of old-school fall and Halloween imagery. Hard Times at the Huskin’ Bee is the best episode! Bookmark this for when temperatures drop and you want to be cozy and a little spooky. Also, the soundtrack is 10/10 and worth tracking down on vinyl. We watch on repeat in our household starting Sept 1st, if not sooner. Plus the episodes are short, about 11 minutes long… basically the length of a Bluey episode!”

“10 min episodes of perfect charming spooky soothing fall vibes with lots of little songs and the whimsy all pays off at the end if you see it through.”

“Peak autumnal media! Extremely cozy atmosphere and such a whimsical cast of characters. One of my favorite moments in the show is when Wurt is stuck inside that Inn with all the storybook characters trying to guess his archetype. Eventually they settle on The Lover, which he absolutely is. And his little brother, Greg, perfectly embodies all the aspects of The Fool.”

“Marvelous voice cast and just spooky enough for kids and grown-ups to get a little shiver down their spines. Ten episodes, about ten minutes each. Soundtrack is so good we bought it on vinyl.”

“Reminiscing on this and wishing for cooler weather & a rewatch of this”

“I watched this over the halloween season a couple of years ago and it's utterly charming and sweet.”

“Sublime mini-series. Gorgeous, haunting, masterful.”

“Oh this show is such a wonderful annual watch. So cozy and autumnal. The music, the art, the sweetness! Enjoy with some candy corn if you please!”

“Autumn, siblinghood, music, frog”

“Perfect annual autumn watch. A beautifully produced mini-series with great characters and a story that I don't want to say too much about, following two brothers lost in a strange place.”
