“Yixing clay (zisha or "purple sand") is a highly prized, porous stoneware native to the Yixing region in Jiangsu, China. Famous for unglazed teapots, its unique mineral composition and double-pore structure allow the clay to "breathe," absorbing tea oils over time to richly enhance and season the flavor of your brews. The clay is also largely controlled and restricted from mining, meaning it’s increasingly rare. Those committed to tea often dedicate tea pots to one specific type of tea. As you go further down the tea rabbit hole, you may find yourself gravitating toward unglazed yixing tea ware and dedicating those items to specific types of tea.”
