“Blew through Rochester, NY, yesterday to see an exhibit at the George Eastman House about Edward Steichen's unbelievable gardens. Most people know him as a photographer for Conde Nast and a director at MoMA, but flowers, esp. delphiniums, had his heart--in 1936, he filled MoMA's galleries with a special showing of the delphiniums he cultivated. Apparently his farm in Connecticut was a drift of blue when they were in bloom--tens of thousands--and he liked to plant sunflowers along the edges of the fields. I v. much wanted to scream with joy walking through the exhibit--too much beauty--and the catalog is a must-have for any lover of flowers. And I am now on a mission to source this hat:”
