“Supposedly Apple Music is set to notify me when artists in my library release new music, but for reasons I don’t at all understand, it really sucks at this—I seem to get a handful of notifications per year for random releases, and it completely misses tons of others.
This iPhone+iPad+Mac app, from the developer of the also-great YouTube watch-later app Play, lets you follow specific artists (and you can import all or some artists from various streaming services and/or your local music library) and see past and upcoming releases. It doesn’t give you individual phone notifications when something new comes out (I suspect that this is an OS limitation, probably because it can’t keep that info updated and deliver notifications if it gets purged from memory in the background), but you can have it add release dates to your calendar, and it will give you a general ping on Fridays to remind you to come take a look at the Released and Upcoming lists and see if anything catches your eye, which is good enough for me. (Just to give an example, without this, I don’t think I would’ve had any idea that Modest Mouse and Death Cab for Cutie released new albums recently, because Apple Music sure didn’t tell me.)”
