“I know Fellini is all the rage (I DO get it) but, where are my Luchino Visconti fanatics at?! This is perhaps one of his lesser known titles but, oh, is it a sensual, scandalous affair! Picture it: Rome, circa 1890. Aristocrat Tullio Hermil (played by handsome devil Giancarlo Giannini) is a philandering scoundrel, wronging his lovely wife Giuliana (Laura Antonelli) to have an affair with Teressa (played perfectly by Miss Jennifer O'Neill), an aristocratic socialite. Oh, but, Tullio sure misses his wife when SHE decides to skip out on him after being wooed by a respected novelist Fillippo. He doesn't just miss her, he loses his damn mind over the whole matter, which was his fault to begin with! His madness drives him to do the unthinkable, leaving very little to redeem his character. Thank you, Vinegar Syndrome, for giving this underrated gem the recognition it deserves.”
