“The Vanderbilt Grace is a great place to stay that’s very Gilded Age feeling. Right in the middle of town too which makes it fun and walkable. Castle Hill in the main house is another good one although it’s a little too far to walk to town. The Viking is also in town if you want to stay close. Shopping is pretty centralized along Thames Street, but there’s some stuff along Bellevue near the mansions, it’s just not as dense and varied. There’s a lot of great restaurants in Newport these days, but I would stay away from the touristy places along the wharf and the White Horse Tavern though. Going on a ghost tour is super fun if you can find one and I would also highly recommend chartering a sailboat for you and whoever you’re traveling with. It’s not too expensive and it’s amazing and peaceful, especially on a nice day.”
