“Personally, I only use Rec League. I hadn't been on social media since 2020 until this app came around. It's a welcoming, thoughtful space for sharing that feels low stakes. I like using it during work breaks or between gigs for fun. I usually learn something new and leave feeling: neutral, delighted, amused, inspired. It isn't ugly (in design or content) or filled with slop (like most corners of the internet) or trying to sell things in ways that don't feel genuine (I tried that for a day and hated it). What can I say: I tend to draw a hard line? Here's a Richard Serra oil stick print with some moderately hard lines (much better in person because you can see the texture of the unique blend of oil and feel the impression on the paper; these prints form crystals on the surface so there's a whole conservation process that is involved in keeping them alive).”

“I wrote this (for a LinkedIn post) about Rec League six months ago. I continue to love the experience of being on this app, and I think that's a testament to the quick and snappy improvements the Rec League team is making. I was curious what other Rec League folks think about it... One of the co-founders of Rec League writes, “Our bet is that in the age of AI, human taste and curation matter.” I agree! Within the SEO world, and now the GEO game, I want real recommendations, directly from real people — real obsessions. Waterproof hiking shoes, museum exhibits, hole-in-the-wall restaurants, small-batch olive oil, the journal pen that puts all others to shame... An ecosystem of fascinating recommendations from fascinating people. I have been thinking about if there is a way to win on this platform, even if you don’t already have an existing following or community that wants your recommendations. I am compelled by Rec League’s potential to elevate and monetize the recommendations of “somebody’s,” just as much as the recommendations of “nobody’s.” I think that one way to do this is through building a curation ecosystem around a certain theme or through-line, such as a sport, a career, a season, or a geographic location. Like what salt a professional baker uses, and what their favorite shoes to bake in are. Or, a profile dedicated entirely to the New England summertime aesthetic, and all of the products that flow downstream from this distinct lifestyle. I hope to see more opportunities for storytelling or vibe-setting around these recommendations, so that individuals without a following can also financially benefit from sharing their recs, expertly gathered through their unique life arcs, experiences, and interests. I am so excited by platforms that uplift and center human curation in this rapidly-changing world.”

“Archival is a tricky process in almost any creative field. Where to begin? Any platforms we've used, any platforms that have gained momentum over time fall short in more ways than one. If they're good at photo, they're atrocious at video. If they're good at plain text, they're terrible for a portfolio. Obviously Rec League is not a perfect solution, as perfection is inherently imperfect, but boy does it come closer for us than anything else we've seen. We create collections for all of our digital work, references, inspiration and digitized copies of anything we produce in the physical realm. We can easily store an endless amount of content, comment on it, share it easily and quickly, file it in any number of ways and take advantage of unique visual elements like the collage functionality. In the future we would LOVE to see more specific access controls, more options for embedded content and better integrations with other platforms. But still, even in Rec League's relative infancy, we've got a winner on our hands.”

“What other social media platform, recommendation platform or really internet platform of any variety allows for so much freedom in terms of posting or engaging? Literally every media type under the sun is welcome, any interpretation of what a recommendation is, deep customization as a core tenet - write absolutely nothing in your description or an essay, both have the potential to be received rapturously. Rec League swallows other platforms whole and following the rooms roll out (which in typical Rec League fashion, one-upped the closest comparable capability elsewhere from day one) is as good as it gets.”
