'Sa'Etta' Chianti Classico Riserva

“I have this wine in my own personal cellar. It is absolutely Fing fantastic, and the fact that it's below $50 is mind-boggling to me. The vines that go into this wine are 55-years old and produce silky, concentrated, elegant, harmonious wines. This one will be a great match for cheesy Fontina or Parmesan-heavy mac dishes. Something else that would be great with this: creamy tomato soup or dotting your mac & cheese with tomatoes...and even some ground beef. The Cheeseburger Hamburger Helper and this wine would be a fantastic High/Low pairing!”

“This estate was purchased by American Michael Schmelzer in 2003. He immediately got to work to convert the vineyards to organic viticulture, and today is certified organic and practices biodynamic farming as well. If Chianti Classico had a geographic center, Panzano would be it. Monte Bernardi is situated in the southernmost part of Panzano, and their vineyards are surrounded by their own oak forests - a huge plus for biodiversity and balancing humidity. This brings freshness and a vertical effect to the wines, which pop with notes of cranberry, red plum skin, elegance, and harmony. My personal favorite bottling is his Sa'Etta, whose grapes come from a 55 year-old vineyard. Year in and year out, this wine is very fine and strung with the tension of a crossbow.
