“This article about DFW’s sister Amy absolutely broke me. You should read it yourself but here's one of the memorable things I picked up: Their mom, Sally, was an English professor who wrote a textbook called Practically Painless English with the pedagogical aim of teaching people how to use English with personality. Below is an exercise from the section about verbs: Please circle each verb you find in these sentences. - The fox moaned and groaned when the chicken escaped.  - I baked a cake for Mongo, but he turned bright green after he ate some.  - George is upset because his father thinks he lied about the cherry tree.  - Florence sneaked out of her room, tiptoed down the stairs, and dynamited the refrigerator.  - The big fish kept out of trouble because he shut his mouth and stayed in school.”
