“Investing in this auto coop door with light sensor was one of the best investments we made. It took a week or two for our chickens to get the hang of it (our ducks are neurotic and refuse to be trained to go in at night). Now that it has clicked, it is a game changer. Ours is battery operated and still going strong nearly seven months later on a single set of batteries. Definitely recommend purchasing with the separate light that goes inside the coop and turns on 10 minutes before the door will close to give your birds a cue that bedtime is approaching.
We have the “dumb” version but it appears that that model is no longer available.”
