“my favorite film of all time and the biggest inspiration for good friends by far. shot over the course of 12 years, boyhood follows a fictional story of a boy's coming-of-age from 6 to 18, and i'd always wanted to write something similar to this but from a trans perspective - something where we watch a character privately grapple with their gender identity in their youth, gradually make more sense of it and how it intersects with their sexuality and other aspects of their identity as they age, and eventually fully transition in who they've always wanted to be and who they were always meant to be. good friends, which takes place from 2012 to 2021 and follows its protagonist from age 13 in middle school to age 22 (and fully transitioned) at the tail end of college, does just this :)”
