“when my phone broke in japan (all my years in la made me forget how fickle heavy rain can be with only a “water resistant” bag), we went to the nearest bic camera in shibuya to buy a camera. i didn’t spend all this money and time on a trip of my dreams to have no photographic evidence of it. i brought it with me on my most recent trip and i’ll keep bringing her with me every time i travel. the pictures aren’t good—but they’re perfect to me.
there’s just something about the digital camera. the way my hands shake and how it poorly adjusts in low lighting. it softens the world into hazy memory before your eyes. this is what i thought the world would look like when i was a kid. the pictures look like the photos i took in 2011 in london, blurry and underexposed and imperfect. when i look into this camera, i can briefly see the world as it is and was and will never be again with no automatic filtering in the way.”
