Mariana“Kerry James Marshall survey exhibition. I first was introduced to his work while preparing a postgraduate exhibition project called “FloweR/x, a remedy of beauty for contemporary sorrows”. I presented floral themed artworks that utilized flowers to speak about socio-cultural and environmental issues. At the time, I was taken by his piece ‘Better Homes, better gardens”, a commentary on redlining, housing inequality and the structural racism that shapes Black life in American cities. To see this work-and all the others of course- in real life, was moving and also allowed me to discover the extensive layering -both of painting and of meaning- on each of his works. Fully recommend Currently at Zurich Kunsthaus, the exhibition is a cooperation with the Royal Academy of Arts, London, and the Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris.”
