“We’ve been flooded with second rate and watered down retellings of Beatrix Potter stories because they entered the public domain in 2014. This is a proper radio play version of Peter Rabbit and the other classics with background music and sound effects. Vivien Leigh is a perfect narrator, the vibes are right. Peter’s existential struggle with naughtiness and comparison to his siblings makes me tearful but everyone around me seems unaffected. Many abridged versions of these stories now cut out the looming threat of being made into rabbit pie. I miss the wider acceptance that children love gore from my own childhood.”
