“Got to pop in to this rambling book-warren perched alongside a river; chairs positioned strategically throughout, often near open windows and the sound of moving water. Found many treasures and brought home a biography of Ruth Krauss and Crockett Johnson, letters from Sylvia Townsend Warner, the Norton Book of Travel, a Kenneth Grahaeme book I had never seen before, and a book on Donald Crowhurst, fraudulent sailor. “Western Massachusetts. This is a place of magic. Their tagline is “books you don’t need in a place you can’t find” which is basically a description of heaven to me. It’s in an old mill, perched above a river—glorious to listen to as you wander and browse through the warren of rooms. I went to college nearby and the hours we spent posted up in the Lady Killigrew cafe, or in the saggy armchairs tucked in corners overlooking the river is pretty much the apex of nostalgia for me”
